Six different excursions are going to be offered to delegates of the 12th Austrian Cycling Summit on wednesday afternoon.
You can book your participation in one of the excursions during the registration for the conference. Please note that places for the excursions are limited. A bike rental is available for those who cannot bring their own bicycles.
Bicycle Tradition in Graz
Bicycle ride from the Wilhelm-Fischer-Allee with the City’s first self-pegged bike path to the Volksgarten (location of the first workshop of Johann Puch), contuniation to the Köstenbaummühle (formerly Styria bicycle works) to the former Einser-Werk with subsequent visit of the Johann Puch-Museum.
Smart City Graz – City of short ways
An urban mix of uses will characterize the Smart City urban development areas in the west of Graz as an attractive and diversified living space. The goal is sustainable mobility behavior through short everyday journeys – gentle mobility thus has priority in Smart City Graz. Private investors conclude mobility contracts with the city of Graz, the public space is a place for people, the lounges are planned according to the needs of pedestrians and cyclists.
Infrastructure measures to promote cycling
A tour to current and exceptional cycling infrastructure in the City of Graz. The route goes from the Messecongress Graz to the LKH Graz and leads over the Begegnungszone of the Sonnenfelsplatz to the newly designed Wickenburggasse as an example how available areas can be redistributed. The excursion ends at Central Station of Graz.
Traffic Education Centre Graz
A bicycle tour to the Traffic Education Center Graz at the ÖAMTC site in the Alte Poststraße. Since 2016, a modern training facility has been available there on an area of 2,500 m² for parents and children from the City of Graz and its surroundings. The excursion will be led by the Easy Drivers Cycling School.
Technical Tour – Insight to the Cycling Infrastructure of Graz
Larger projects, construction site management and signage concepts: Grazer main cycle routes, construction site of the Murkraftwerk- a power plant on the river Mur, visit of the expansion Südbahn, conversion of the former motorway “stump”, urban development area Reininghausgründe etc.
Guided tour to the exhibition “Fahr Rad!” (“Let’s Bike!”)
The House of Architecture (HDA) in Graz is showing “Fahr Rad!”, an exhibition of the Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM) in Frankfurt. It addresses the question how the development of a city should look like to attract even more people to cycling in the future. The exhibition promotes this gentle reconquest of the city with projects from all over the world. It also refers to the situation of cycling in Graz and Styria – prepared by the Institute for Urban Development of the Faculty of Architecture of Graz University of Technology under the direction of Prof. Aglaée Degros.
